A Connecting Flight...?
I (17) have never flown outside of Europe and I'm flying to America on Thursday alone and I'm wondering how everything works when I get off the plane, but have another flight to catch. I am flying to Newark airport and then catching another flight to San Antonio.. I presume I won't need to get my bags because I'm using the same airline (Continental), if I do need to get them, then I think I know what to do... If i don't have to get my bags how do I not go to baggage claim but go to immigration and carry on to catch my other flight, and what order? I hope that made sense, I'm so confused because I have never had a connecting flight, so I only know to go to baggage claim and I have never had to do the whole immigration thing. Thanks for reading, any advice would help! :) Thank you for your answers so far :) So I'm pretty sure now I won't have to get my bags. But there is a different way for me to go because I am connecting, but then is there another way to go because I am an Non-US Citizen? (just a thought?) All in all, once I am done with getting off the plane and immigration ect.. is it simple enough to just find my other flight?

You will probably not have to get your bags. You can ask the attendants to assist you...it is their job.

Your carry on you just take with you. As far as the checked bags they should be transferred to your next flight automatically. If in doubt ask the flight attendant. Have a safe trip! Oh and by the way welcome to America!

Once upon arrival at Newark, look for a sign called connecting flights and follow it. You do not have to go through immigration UNTIL you reach your final destination. Bags are transferred for you since you are on the same airline.

Unfortunately, the earlier answers will provide a shock for you when you actually arrive in Newark. Upon arrival in the US, you will deplane and head to the US Immigration hall. There your entry into the US will be processed by the border agents who are part of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, a section of the Department of Homeland Security. Once your immigration paperwork has been completed and have been granted access to the US, the US Customs laws require that all arriving international passengers (US and non-US citizens alike) collect their bags from the baggage claim area and present the customs clearance forms to the Customs inspector at the exit of the arrival hall along with all the bags. Neither the flight attendants from the airline nor any ground staff will help you with this function. There may be porters (Red Caps as they are known in Newark) available to help you for a per bag fee plus tips. Alternatively, you can rent a baggage cart in the arrival hall for a few dollars. When the customs agent reviews your declaration form, you may find that you are selected for a detailed baggage inspection or simply be waived through as the most likely scenario. The secondary selection is supposed to be random as to whom is selected and why but my experience has shown that lots of bags from countries with what the US considers questionable backgrounds will get searched more often. Once you have exited the arrivals hall and thus cleared the INS and Customs procedures, look for the sign for connecting flights and find the Continental check-in desks who will confirm your onward connection and recheck your bags to San Antonio. When you land in San Antonio, you collect your bags from the baggage hall like you are already used to doing. The good news is that, in San Antonio, you have no further administrative processes to endure before leaving for your local destination. The overall process can be time consuming depending upon the number of other international flights arriving at roughly the same time. The longest part is the immigration process for non-US citizens. In can take hours on bad days to get processed as you will have to have all the forms completed correctly before they will even begin to process your arrival. Then they take a photo along with finger prints from both hands. The good news is that a long INS delay means that the bags have usually made it onto the baggage claim and so no extra delays would be expected. So, if all your paperwork is in order, the actual procedure to make your connecting flight is really quite straight forward and there are plenty of staff in the airport arrivals area who can assist you with your concerns on the day.

Do I need to re-check in at ANA after my United Flight to chicago?
I am booking a flight with ANA from San Antonio to Osaka Itami. The whole flight is sold by ANA from the ANA website itself. The first segment, an ANA flight, is actually operated by United Airlines, from San Antonio to Chicago. When I deplane in Chicago, do I need to exit and check in with ANA? Must I go thru security again and whatnot or am I going to be given boarding pass for all flights in san antonio? The San Antonio airport only has a United counter, no ANA. Thanks

Cant track this Flight

So I recieved a flight itenerary from a freind who lives in England and flying in to visit me in San Antonio. I see the times on the itenerary but can't seem to find any corresponding flight on the airports arrival departure schedule. See if somebody could help me decipher this mess. I think you friend sent you incorrect info. The break down of flights looks very suspicious, just looking at the departure/arrival cities and the time, which are repeated; bad cut & paste, I guess. The initial info is probably the only thing you can rely on, arrival in San Antonio 8/23 at 2:18pm. However, looking a little further, the only flight that would go between Detroit and San Antonio is KL5066 (codeshare N1066), arriving at 3:39pm !? .

I need a round-trip flight from San Antonio,TX to Albany,NY for 2-3 weeks this summer......i need it before August 9th though. I cant seem to find one for under $300....Can anyone help me and tell me any flights you find and what website?

I know its a lot to ask but i'm only 18 so Im not sure how to compare the cheapest flights. I'll do research on my own and thank you guys for helping me out. Any information is helpful, from a fellow passenger or even a pilot or travel agent! I'll be flying into San Antonio July 24th and flying out August 6th. Thank you so much! I will actually be flying out AROUND the 24th but I could fly out anywhere from July 24-27 and back anywhere from August 6-8 but I want to stay for atleast 10 days.

It's called an "open jaw" ticket and they are normal. However, you have to call an airline (talk to a human) or a real travel agent to ask about prices.

Southwest has service from Seattle to Dallas Love Field Airport. They also have service from San Antonio to Seattle. Alaska Airlines has service from Seattle to DFW. You can get separate one way tickets.

It's called an "open jaw" ticket and they are normal. However, you have to call an airline (talk to a human) or a real travel agent to ask about prices.

someone told me on the plane that alaska airlines does, but when i tried searching, this wasnt the case. is there any airlines that fly there directly from my location?

What is the best hotel and flight to visit the lackland Airforce base in San Antonio, TX?
My husband is going into the airforce on Tuesday and I am trying to plan ahead to get the best deals for airfare and hotels for his graduation. I don't want to rent a car if possible so it needs to be close. If you have personal experience that would be wonderful!

My boyfriend left for BMT recently too and I'm also looking for a close by hotel! From the reviews I read about the hotels near the AFB, a lot of people are saying they're not the best, but their benefits are being so close to the base. I think I'm going to get a hotel in the San Antonio area and just take a taxi. I hope the best for you two!

Stay on base if you can. I can't remember the name of the hotel but its pretty decent and you can have your airman come hang out with you during base libery because after eating at the base restaurants and bowling there is NOTHING to do on Lackland. There are a few other hotels nearby basse but they're pretty ghetto. There was one right by my hubs squadron that was lime green! He said there were constant hookers and drug deals going on. Definetly rent a car! He will get a day and a half off base and ya'll will want to go to riverwalk and do other things. Plus your husband will be thrilled to be able to go somewhere in a car and not have to walk there.email me if ya have any questions :) ry13_2000@yahoo.com

i can't imagine it could possibly be more than 30 minutes, not including the time spent in the airport--be sure to get there at least an hour early.

It is about an hour flight. A little less. It is just an ordinary flight in a cramped airplane. But it is short. I fly to Asia where the flights are 14-16 hours long. One hour is nothing. It was a commercial flight: AA.

By the tone of your questions I take it you have never flown before. Flight time is about 1 hour. give or take. what was it like. crowded. seats are cramped. but I love flying. get a window seat if you can. not one over the wing that will block your view but one where you can see the wing and the ground as well. You won't get a meal on such a short flight but the attendants will probably serve a drink shortly after takeoff (Soda, OJ, Apple Juice etc...) work your jaw like you are chewing gum, or better yet get a piece of chewing gum for your flight. do this on takeoff and landings. working your jaw helps equalize pressure in your ears during the rapid changes in altitude. an Hour flight is very short. I recently had to make two roundtrip flights to SE Asia. Houston-Los Angeles-Taiwan-Cambodia and back. Houston-Detroit-Tokyo-Bangkok and back the cross pacific flight is around 17 to 22 hours Funny thing with jet travel and time zones. When I flew from Narita Airport in Tokyo, Japan back to the States, I flew 19 hours, and landed 2 and a half hours BEFORE I took off on the SAME DAY. With Divorced Parents living in different States (TX, MO) I grew up flying commercial every summer back and forth. I have flown out of San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston I have flown all over the US from TX, to MO, to FL, and CA during my time in the USN. I even got a round the world trip First half by Ship to the Persian Gulf then Second half by Air from the Gulf back to stateside hospital. I flew to and from Germany and the States as an Army Brat. I flew home from Japan when I got out of the Navy. and my two previously mentioned trips to Cambodia and Thailand to get my VISA for my wife.

i was stationed in san antonio at fort sam houston. the flight from san an to dallas is 45 min. it wasn't my first flight, my first was from NY where ive lived my whole life, to south carolina for boot camp, then i flew from s.c to atlanta to dallas to san antonio. Lackland air base is beautiful. hope you get to check out Camp Bullis. I had to camp there for 7 days with my platoon doing medical training. you will have a nice flight. it's no big deal.

I attached a link to a Space A site. You won't find a schedule. You have to call them. Your chances of a direct flight are slim but not impossible. I wanted to get from Hawaii to SA once and I was going to have to go from Hickam to Travis, wait a few hours, them go from Travis to Wright Patterson, stay there overnight. From there I had two options. Leave to Tinker and wait again before going to Kelly or wait another day and it would be direct from WP to SA. I only had two weeks of leave to use and after deciding it was going to be too much travel time I ended up buying a flight from HI to LAX to SA. Two flights, two carriers but $300 cheaper than the direct. The link has a "here" where you click in the top paragraph that has a bunch of contact numbers for AFB's. You just have to call, tell them where you are planning on going and they will tell you how close they can get you. Good Luck. Hope this helped.

There's really no way for us to answer that. What city are you leaving from? California is big, and has many airports. If you are leaving from San Diego, you won't care if I tell you about flights from Sacramento. When do you want to go? What does "not too expensive" mean to you? You may have a lot more, or a lot less, money than I have. Try looking on a booking site like kayak.com or orbitz.com and putting in your specific parameters. If you don't care when you go, it will be cheaper to fly in the middle of the week, and cheaper to book at least 3 weeks ahead of time, preferably more.

It has to do with the large number of criminals that relocated after hurricane Katrina, before San Antonio was mostly native white Texans and Mexicans, now things have changed. Nobody wants to live in a getto, even the Mexicans are moving.

If you have alternative transportation, then by all means, purchase that ticket because it's only going to get more expensive!

Go to www.uctwithme.com, click "Concierge" and either call or fill out the online travel request form and tell them that web address if they ask. This is a Travelocity.com and AIG partner company and they specialize in international travel.

Boston and Atlanta are two other possibilities, but these routings are used mostly in the summer. I'd book directly with Air France right now. They're currently having a sale for departures within the next few months. I know that New York - Paris round trip is about 650 dollars. Add in a connection to San Antonio (Delta would be ideal is you could find one) and you'll be all set, with an extra one or two hundred dollars in your pocket! Hope this helps =)

My Airforce son is coming home for Christmas. I am trying to get a ticket for him. All flights out of San Angelo are super expensive. Tickets from Austin and San Antonio are less but wondering if there is a way to get to those airports that doesn't involve renting a car (too young).

I just went there last summer! It was a blast. The flight was only 3 hours and about 30 minutes. It can be 4 hours long though. It also depends on if you get a direct ticket, or 2 separate plane rides. Two separate plane rides are a little longer because of the waiting time for boarding. If you are going there, you will have SOO much fun!

How to stop excess anxiety on soon 3hr airplane flight?
Sometimes in flight I worry about having a heart problem even though I don't and my doctor said mine is fine. I do have diagnosed anxiety/depression (Generalized Anxiety Disorder and OCD) and mild depression because of it and take about 40mg fluoxetine (Prozac generic) daily which has helped a lot. I'm soon going with my family on an airplane trip and don't want my heart to beat too fast on the airplane but ironically this worry/focus makes it beat faster haha. I had this worry before and made it fine on a 7hr Tokyo to Honolulu flight and this time it'll be a 3hr Minneapolis to San Antonio flight. What can I do to be less anxious about my heart and have more positive focus? That is my only anxiety is that I'll have problems like that on the flight.

There are several prescription and over the counter remedies for anxiety disorders, the best of which I have only used recreationally, but Xanax is prescribed for it. A stiff drink usually knocks out any reservations I feel when flying, I usually am the only one cheering on the turbulence, but then again, I was the only one laughing while the guy hit the prop in the movie titanic.

I'd use dramamine since it helps with motion sickness and calms the body down quite a bit.

The only permanent solution is removing the root of your fears. Maybe psycho-therapy. A quick fix is of course a stiff drink or some beers before boarding the plane. However, I'm not an expert and I doubt that other posters here are. You should discuss this with your doctor.

On a Delta flight from San Antonio with a connection through Atlanta, am I allowed to check 2 bags free or 1?
I'm traveling on a flight from SAT to Madrid with a connection in Atlanta and thus far I haven't received a great answer from the Delta website. I just want to know if I can check 2 bags free or just one?

Because your final destination is Madrid, the checked baggage policy for flights between the US and Europe apply. According to Delta's website, this means you can check one bag for no charge and a second bag for $50 if paid online of $55 if paid at the airport.

You may check one bag free of charge in SAT. A second bag will cost you $55, but you can get a discount by prepaying the second bag online.

Weather Continental delayed flight San Antonio to Houston caused me to miss a connection and stay overnight?
This was a weather delay - They put me on a flight out the next afternoon; they refused to pay fo my room is there a way to get it paid?

No. Airlines do not compensate for "acts of god" aka weather. You're lucky they put you on a flight the next morning...I was once delayed for 3 days due to a single night of fog.

No. Weather delays are out of the airline's control and in the US, travellers are not compensated for weather-related expenses.

The only time an airline is required to compensate you is if the delay/cancellation was due to a factor under their control. Unfortunately, they are not required to do anything for you.

The airlines are not obligated to pay for a room stay or food vouchers when your delay is due to weather or air traffic because it is a delay that is not in their control. If your flight was delayed or cancelled under what would be their control, i.e maintenance or crew delaly, they would put you up for the night. Unfortunately you're stuck with the cost of the night stay in the hotel
