texas rainfall

texas rainfall?
I'm going to houston tomorrow and I heard that it has been raining for awhile. Will my flight be delayed? Is Houston one of the cities that are flooded? What about San Antonio? Is the RiverWalk flooded?

oooweeee, houston's not a place you wanna be right now. it started raining last night and hasn't stopped yet. It's been raining the past week and it's supposed to rain for at least another week. and yes, houston floods ALL THA TIME. it floods bad with just OND day of heavy rain, and they've been having it for a lil more than a week now. the highways are flooding right now, and they usually get shut down. i don't know about san antonio though.

Yes, it's raining. And yes it's possible your flight may be delayed. And yes, Houston is one of the cities that are flooded. But, no, I think San Antonio is drying out after the rain of last week. Don't think the River Walk is flooded. They have flood control gates that can keep the level of water in the River Walk area somewhat constant.

It has been raining in the majority of Texas for the past two weeks. Dallas had major floods and so far Houston has been spared. I have not heard anything about San Antonio. If it floods anywhere, it usually drains within hours. Flights are delayed if there are lightning storms.

The reports of Houston flooding are exaggerated. People from out of town think we are in boats right now to get down the street. We have heavy rains and some of the lanes of certain streets get flooded. And 2 hours later, they are almost dry. The street near my house had a dry lane down the middle of the road with water over the curbs on both sides. After lunch, there was about an inch of water against the curb. While we have had to use boats in the past, there is nothing like that now. And it could delay your flight.

Personally, I live in West Houston and I haven't seen any flooding at all on our side of town. Yes it's raining daily, pretty hard at times, but that happens pretty regularly in this city. It's not really raining much today that I've seen, so here's to hoping your flight will come in fine.

How much would a USA road trip coast to coast cost

How much would a USA road trip coast to coast cost?
Okay so I am from Ireland and I was hoping to do a road trip from east to west coast America. Now here is the route, well the major cities of the route just to get the idea in your head, we will be stopping at smaller cities and towns: flight into Boston - New York - Philly - Washington - Miami - New Orleans - Houston - San Antonio - Las Vegas - LA - San Fran There is going to be a group of about 5 or 6 of us. We plan on renting a minivan or suv for this trip and the trip will be 60 days in total. Now I think to rent an suv for that long is about รข‚¬2000, but that will be between 5 or 6 of us. Could someone tell me roughly how much this trip will cost, you can exclude the cost of flights and rental car, I just want a rought estimate per person how much it will cost for 60 days for food, drink, petrol and general spending?

I'd think you'd be more like $4000 for a decent sized SUV. $2000 might get you a pretty basic saloon car. Food is cheaper over there than here, but it depends what you eat. If you're always stopping at fast food places then it's going to cost around $20 per person per day, but if you make your own and carry it with you then you could probably quarter that. Fuel is cheaper too, but not much. Coast to Coast is around 3500 miles of road. An SUV might manage 25MPG, and it costs $3 per gallon, approximately, so fuel should come to around $500 for the trip, but that depends on your exact route choice, diversions, and car MPG. General Spending, well that depends on what you do!! I'd say that to have fun you should allow around $300-$500 per week between you. So my estimates are: SUV hire: $4000 Food: 5 people x $20 x 60 days = $6000 Fuel: $500 Spending : $400 x 8 weeks = $3200 Total: $14000 Check out the link below for a similar story to yours.

A meal in an average cafe or restaurant might cost an individual about ten dollars. It could be more or less depending on where you stay and how much you order, certainly, but that's an average. You can, of course, buy some food at the grocery stores and prices will vary greatly depending on if you are near a city or in a rural area. A gallon of milk is about 2 dollars. A loaf of bread is about 2 dollars and a pack of lunch meat (a pound of ham, turkey or beef) is about 6 dollars. You can get several meals out of that, alone. Gas is roughly $2.50 a gallon, and those minivans don't get many miles to a gallon. Compare vehicles based on their ratings. Alcohol is expensive, a six pack of beer is probably 7 or 8 dollars if bought at a grocery store, 3-5 dollars if bought at a restaurant or bar. Have a fun trip.....begging on street corners is always permissible if you run out of cash!

Is this plenty of time to get off an airplane and into a cab

Is this plenty of time to get off an airplane and into a cab?
If I my flight is supposed to land at 9:55 AM in San Antonio, would I be able to get off the plane at out to an online requested cab by 10:30 AM? Or do you think that's cutting it too close and I should request my cab at 11:00 AM? I'm asking if that's usually enough time to get off an airplane and down the the pickup area. The taxi company that I'm calling has a rate of 2.30 per mile compared to the taxis that pick you up on the spot at a rate of 2.45 per mile

That isn't how it works. You don't "request a cab" in advance at an airport. You just get off the plane, collect your checked bag (if any), and follow the signs to the taxi area. Taxis will be waiting. If you're reserving a "town car" or limo - one of those guys who waits for you with a sign with your name on it, just outside the secure area - you just tell the car company your flight number and the scheduled arrival time - they'll know when to be waiting for you, they'll check with the airline for schedule changes, etc. But that's not a "cab." Edit - added: > The taxi company that I'm calling has a rate of 2.30 per mile compared to the > taxis that pick you up on the spot at a rate of 2.45 per mile And if you're late for any of several possible reasons, you'll be paying their wait time charge. There's no wait time charge for town cars - it's a flat rate - but they cost more.

You have two options.Just come out and take a taxi from the taxi stand or call a taxi from a taxi company. The first is a better option, so it is advisable to take a taxi from the airport.
3 :
Usually, yes; but there could be a delay in departure from your originating city, a delay getting to the gate, or a delay in deplaning, or a delay waiting for your luggage. Or you could arrive early and be in the ground transportation area much before that. When you request the cab, normally they ask for your airline and flight number and show up accordingly, depending on when the flight is scheduled to arrive. You'll get your cab when you get it; it is not going to be that synchronized.
4 :
there are usualy cabs waiting at the airport. you don't have to request anything! just walk out the door, and get a cab.
5 :
better make it AT LEAST 11am. thing is you may not land exactly at 9:55am and it usually takes a good 10 minutes just to get out of the plane. also you may need to go to the bathroom after you get off. plus you have to get to baggage claim and usually have to wait a few minutes before the luggage is all on the carousel. if you really want to pre arrange for a cab then i'd make it more like 11:30am to be on the safe side. you could just pay the extra 15 cents per mile for the peace of mind that you won't be worrying about the time for the whole flight and rushing to get off the plane. saving a few bucks isn't worth getting yourself stressed out.
6 :
If you don't have any checked luggage, you should be able to get to the taxi by 10:30. If you have luggage to claim, give yourself another 15 minutes or so.
7 :
I think you got some bad information. Every cab company operating in San Antonio has to charge you the same rate. A cab company can't charge less. Taxi fares are regulated by city/county. As too your question of time, you don't say if you have checked baggage or not. If you have checked bags, it is absolutely not enough time. Even if you have only a carryon bag, 35 minutes may not even be enough. 9:55am is not when the plane gets to the gate, that's the expected time when its wheels touch the ground. It can take 10-15 min just to get to the gate and then expect another 10 min just to get off the plane.
